OMG, a family resemblance?

I have so many posts in the drafts folder right now...I am just all over the place.

  • In short--we have raised $3,000 in the fundraiser. Just to make sure everyone knows--this is NOT for our personal fund. This is all for the orphans. We are not doing any personal fundraisers, although we were recently hit with yet another bill (I didn't know it was so expensive to 'purchase' their VISAs!) and I'm getting ever-more-nervous about the last minute notice we'll have to purchase those mega-airline tickets. Yikes. But still, just wanted to let you know that if you purchased a CD or made a donation it will ALL go towards the littlest ones in the world who have few advocates. I wish I could post photos we took of some of them, it would break your hearts.

  • We have not heard a peep on our file. It's probably not even AT the U.S. Embassy yet...our agency is still 'working' on it although it is beyond me what they have to do with it. Ugh. I am so sick of this waiting. Yes I know I'm in the home stretch but imagine knowing your babies are out there and you can only wait to hold them. 'Tis a real bitch. And I have to catch myself all.the.time to not just break down and cry over the complete lack of control I have over it.

  • We got a new photo yesterday with new weights. Let me just say that they are so small. The 4th and 11th percentiles. I know we can help them catch up but man are they small.

  • We also picked names. After much debate and angst. I promise I'll share....soon.

  • We finished the nursery. What an undertaking! But I'm really pleased.

  • I keep having these little panicked moments that no.one.will.come.to.my.shower. And we need stuff! I worry that I've isolated a lot of fertile friends and now they might just be too annoyed with me to come.

  • OK so when I got this photo of little baby girl I immediately thought: she looks just like me! OK, not just like me...but still, do you see the resemblance? I think it's the large forehead, ha. Of course, her ears are much, much more delicate than mine. :)

  1. First, of COURSE people are going to come to your shower. Some of us may not have made the phone call yet...

Second, of COURSE this wait is agonizing. I can't imagine it. I want the wait to be over, over, over for you.

    Thinking of you.

  2. Spitting image! Lol. She is beautiful

  3. I RSVP'd by text! And I will be knocking on some people's doors if they don't show! Punks! Their present better be nice too!

I thought she looked like you in the first batch of photos you posted & told J. Now I know why. She has the most beautifully expressive eyes too. (Yes, I do just stare at your children. They are gorgeous. And will be plump in no time!)

During prayers of the people at church, during a certain time, not only are we praying for your sweet babies & orphanage, but also the Ethiopian government, courts, US embassy & US congress. I may need to recruit more help as obviously I have no pull (maybe a trip to confession is in order...hmm...nah!). Hoping you get that wonderfully crazy urgent phone call to GO GO GO get them soon!

  4. I can't imagine the wait... excruciating. Cry if you must... I know I would!

Secondly, I think she DOES look like you! I believe in God and I think he knows who our families are, well before we do... I think he made her to look like her mama! :)

Third, Mrs. Hermit Crab will not. leave. my. brain. Damn you, Leebot family!!! ;)

  5. ZOMG. She is SO GORGEOUS! AUGH! GAZASP!

Do you have a lot of good reading material to keep you occupied? And by good I mean total guilty pleasure, pure plot kind of stuff? Sometimes I feel like losing myself in a story is one of the only things that helps me through an agonizing wait. Stephen King's UNDER THE DOME kept me from jumping out of my skin for a full twenty-six hours one time. Also, bath products from Lush are exceptionally relaxing -- ask me how I know! <3

  6. I was in the store recently and saw baby items and all I could think of was your babies! Your really and truly almost here babies! It's happening.

I know (tho I know I can't really know) it's so hard right now. I can only hope this now will pass as quickly as humanly possible to bring you your little ones.

I have not peeled the cellophane off my newly arrived Mr. Leebot CDs yet... but look fwd to doing that this wknd!

  9. She actually does look like you! actually, more so than my little one looks like me:-) That's great! Ironically, you know the story, but my little one looks like DH, so sometimes that resemblence thing is WEIRD. But, She is really unbelievably beautiful. I can't wait to hear that you are bringing them home!

  10. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to know your babies are out there, but you can't hold them or take care of them. You are so strong to have made it this far!
And wow, she is beautiful! What a gorgeous skin tone she has!!!

  11. When I saw the baby pic come in my reader, I was so excited and blown over!! She is adorable and does kind of look like you a little. She is so meant to be yours.
Amazing news on the fund raiser. I still owe you a donation by the way, you are doing such good things.
I hope the shower goes well, but even more so hope the court system moved quickly for you and that your family is reunited and home where everyone belongs.
This must be such an exciting yet nerve racking time. Much love to you.

  12. She does look like you! What a cutie! I can't imagine how hard this wait must be for you. I hope the case moves along quickly. I have the same fears about my own shower next week, so you are in good company...

  13. Isn't that amazing? She looks very much like you! She's lovely!

So glad you've raised good money for the orphanage, we've been enjoying our Mr. Leebot CD during playtime. Rockin' out for tummy time!

Enjoy your shower. People will come, and be happy for you!

  14. Dude! That baby girl is. CUTE.

You think VISAS are expensive, wait until they both want to drive, go to prom, go to college!!!

    Lucky kids.

  16. I think that is one of the most beautiful babies I've ever seen in my entire life--she is just gorgeous--like her mommy! Yay for baby showers--I'm sure everyone will show up and you will be all geared up. Thanks for posting!

  17. So sweet! I am sorry you are still waiting as it is extremely frustrating. I haven't forgotten about your CD - I want to buy it when mine are here and healthy.

By the way, I have a meeting Thursday with the local Mothers of Multiples club and people are bringing more stuff to give away. I think you should check your local club out as our club invites anyone with two or more children less than one year apart. We meet once a month and today there is a speaker about relaxation and an update for the March for Babies walk coming up. I think you would really enjoy yours.

  19. I just love her, she is gorgeous, and I'm dying over the tiny puppy shirt.

I think about you guys a lot because when Eli was born he had to spend ONE NIGHT in the hospital with out us and it was like torture to me, so I can not imagine what you must be feeling wanting your babies! I just hope it happens fast!

  20. $3,000?!?! That is FANTASTIC!!! Seriously, really fricken cool.

I can only imagine how brutal this wait is, but at least you're on the down hill. And you have those wicked cute pictures to oogle over till those babies are snuggly and warm on your chest!

Oooh, since we can't have names yet, maybe nursery pics?

    SO excited for you!

  21. As my friend says "I think he has my skin coloring?!". She's waiting for adoption of her Ethiopian son right now and is in the same angst as you. Hang in there! And I just have to say again...your babies have got to be THE cutest I have ever seen. I hope your shower will turn out beyond your wildest imagination - having paid the bill for the nursery items of ONE baby...can't imagine two!! But take care...

  22. Awe, she is so cute, and she does have very similar facial features! That really is something!

Can't wait to hear all about this long time coming baby shower!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. she is so beautiful!!

if you need someone to go knock on the embassy's door repeatedly and daily...i'm so there for you guys! just let me know and i'm on my way, as it's just a few miles away from me! :) anything to help you get those babies in your arms asap!

  24. I see it!!!! :) People used to always tell me I look like my (adoptive) dad when I was young and we'd just look at one another and smile.
I can't believe you have raised 3K....that is GREAT!!!
I know I don't know you IRL, but I know you here and can't imagine people not coming to your shower....I WOULD!!
I can't wait to see the nursery :)

  25. How cute...I do see a little resemblance!

That CD is very well done! I think the kiddos will love it. I just gave my friend a CD for her sister's baby boy....and I have one ready for my SIL's baby. I am also keeping one for me. I listened to it on the way to work today. Tell DH he did a great job!...and your backup on "Our Family" was sick! ;)

  26. PS - wishin' I was already in Austin and could come to your shower!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'd RSVP in a NY-second if I could...I'd be so honored and thrilled to be at your shower!

Make you a deal - when you come back to NYC with your babes, I promise to throw a party for you. Perhaps a picnic in the park? I am certain that there are a few of us here that are fans of you and Mr. MTLs and the party will be a blast!

And... OMG!!! She does look like you and she will no doubt have your mannerisms - so much to look forward to!!

  28. I read the bit about you alienating all your fertile friends and laughed - me too, me too! It does kind of suck. And the worst part is, in a few months time you'll be going 'ooooooooh, right, you didn't actually hate me and you weren't being isolating on purpose.... you just hadn't had any sleep for 6 months and you couldn't think straight. All that thoughtless stuff was probably because your brain wasn't functioning AT ALL'. This definitely happened to me, and it nearly KILLED me! I'd been so resentful of these people for so long, it hurt my pride big time to admit to myself that they were just floundering around, doing the best they could, same as me.

If I had my time again, I can't honestly say that I would isolate myself any less than I did the first time. It's just too painful and raw to be around babies to want to hang out with the mommy crowd. But I think I would try to take the isolation less personally - if our situations were switched, I probably wouldn't have done any better than they did. (And you know it KILLS me to admit that!)

  29. Received the cds and your sweet note. I'm leaving one wrapped up and packed away with hope... The rest will all make it to some really special little ones. What an amazing gift you have raised for your children's first friends.

Gosh, she is such a beautiful baby. I do see the resemblance too. You were a baby cutie too!

I would give anything to be at your shower. I want it to be an amazing day for you. I often think it is less annoyance that our fertile friends have with us and more of an "I don't really know what to say anymore." I hope they are there. I hope it is all you have ever hoped it would be and more. If I started driving now, do you think I could get there in time? Seriously, how do we not live closer?

  30. I totally see the resemblance, how cool is that!

    ReplyDelete
  31. What a sweet little girl. I can't imagine how hard it must be to wait right now.
I find it interesting at how many of my fertile friends didn't notice that I avoided showers or was insanely uncomfortable at them.

  32. She is just too cute for words. And I totally see the resemblance. ;)

I don't comment much on here, but I love your blog. And to prove it, I gave you a blog award: http://phasethreeoflife.blogspot.com/2011/04/im-versatile.html

Hoping you get to wrap your arms around those babies soon!

    ReplyDelete
  33. coming back to tell you, if you do the blog award thing, i gave you one over at my blog. if you're too busy starting lovingly at your babies' pics though to claim it, i will definitely understand!! :)

  34. She is beautiful!! I definitely see the resemblance :)

Just got my CD this evening and I can't wait to put it in the car tomorrow! YAY!!

I am trying to email you but I wasn't sure if the one I have is current with the blog change and can't find one here? Maybe I totally missed it. Can you drop me a note so I can write you? Thanks and hugs to you!

  35. $3,000...yea!! i plan to purchase mine in person...if that's okay. which brings me to...yes...i will be there for your shower! i rsvp'd, but called over internet phone...which can be sketchy at times, but i did leave a message and tried calling again later to be sure the message went through...never got to talk to a human though.
i have to giggle atyou seeing the resemblence...NOT because there isn't one, but because you once wrote something about wanting to have the adoption out there so it would be obvious, or something to that tune. at the time, i thought...well if it is just you out with the baby (didn't know it would be 2 at that point) then that may not be the natural assumption. i know i wouldn't automatically assume your child was adopted, but i might be surprised when i met mr. mtl. even had a convo about it with michael. :) point being, i think it's adorable that you see a resemblance in her!
also, i can't imagine being apart from them...not knowing when they will get to come home for good. i sure hope the time is soon!
