T Minus...A Few Days

So it's Sunday.

Which means in three days we'll board the first flight, spend the night in DC, and then fly direct to Addis Ababa on a very.long.flight and then...and then....hopefully see the babies for a few precious hours.

I'm all over the place. What does one do when getting ready for such a trip? I wrote this whole post on how I'm having my own version of labor pains but that no one really gets that in the non-adoptive world. That's ok. I wouldn't get it either. And I think they're only going to intensify after I hold these babies and then leave them behind. No epidural could ever touch that kind of pain.

So what does one do?

One might put 23 miles on one's running shoes in three days....
One might go out for delicious Cuban food....

One might sit surrounded by so many things to pack (yes, that is a giant bag of Skittles, and a roll of toilet paper).


One's dog might get a little freaked out by all the packing...

While the other dog pretends nothing different is ever, ever going to happen....


One might have to go to the lake just to try to relax....
One's super cute hubs might make a little face when I remind him how soon we will see the babies (as if he needed reminding!).

One's heart might skip a beat when she sees the tiny baby clothes in the laundry basket, freshly washed in Dreft (something she's heard people talk about--even complain about--for years, but feared she would never, ever do) waiting to be packed...

    I know this trip will be hard...infinitely hard. But it will also be so amazing. Seeing YOUR babies for the first time, holding them, spending time with them and telling them how much you love them, will be what will carry you through the hardest part...leaving them behind and waiting for them to come home with you.

    I just can't wait for that moment for you. You so deserve it. Safe travels.

    I can't imagine the emotional map you're trekking all over right now... I think it only CAN be "imagined" and not realized until you're in the thick of it...
    WOW. I can't wait to hear about your meeting them... I do hope you'll share some of those feelings with us...
    Skittles and TP and Dreft... if you're not "nesting" I don't know who is!
    PS, your little "scared" dogs picture makes me laugh!

    I CANNOT WAIT FOR A REPORT, though i do not wish on you having to leave YOUR babies. they are yours and will be now, forever. i am hoping so hard that they get back to you and your sweet husband quickly, but for now, i hope you are able to savor each and every second with them.

    Fantastic!!! Wishing you a safe journey (both the actual flight and the first meeting of your parent-hood journey!)

    I also love the scared puppy pics. Everytime we travel our cat jumps into the empty suitcase as if to say "where are we going?"

    I am SOOO happy the day is almost here for you to meet your babies :) I can't imagine the thoughts/emotions you are having right now and even more so in the coming days. Give them tons of squeezes and kisses and they will remember you completely until you return to take them home! Safe travels...xo

    Sooo excited! There's always that nervous excitement before you meet your babies- that point you reach when you realize "This is IT! I am a MOMMY!" So overly happy for you & I hope you all get more time with the sweet little ones. It is the most amazing feeling in the world. Oh how I wish you could take them home this trip. Safe travels!

    I am so excited for you both. I just went to a Mothers of Multiples meeting and you would qualify because the babies are so close in age. It is a great support group and they probably have one around you. Last week, they gave me tons of clothes, books, and other things during their swap. I will then give them back when I am done, but it was nice to see the great support. I noticed you are packing toilet paper and wondering if you will pack utensils too?

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!! This is where the rollercoaster loops start getting REALLY close together, and fast, and very very swoopy. Not like it wasn't swoopy before, huh? Can't believe you're finally SO CLOSE! Hooray, hooray, hooray for baby clothes :)

    I was wondering when the big day was coming. I am so very excited for you to meet those two little munchkins. I imagine that this is going to be a very emotional, wonderful, over whelming, and heart breaking trip all at the same time. It is amazing that all 4 of you are finally becoming a family!!!
    I will be thinking of you and your babies half way across the world.

    Its so exciting!! Ack! I can just see the legs bouncing around in anticipation. Save a safe flight, cherish every moment with those babies, and know this trip brings you one step closer to them. Not soon enough, of course, but closer nonetheless.

    It's so exciting that you're so close to seeing your babies but heartbreaking at the same time since you don't get to bring them home with you. Have a wonderful trip and give those babies so many kisses they get annoyed with you!

    I'm so excited for you both. I can imagine how hard this is going to be for you when you have to leave, but I'm thinking that it will still be worth the pain to get to hold your babies. I'm looking forward to you updates.

    I am nervous and excited just reading this post! I am so excited you get to meet them! I just wish you were able to bring them home right away...it is going to be so hard to leave them for however long this whole process takes! Stay busy! Good luck! I can't wait to hear all about it!

    This is my favorite entry thus far. What an exciting time. Although it will be difficult to leave your little ones, you will be so glad you went to meet them as soon as you could. It will be a lovely part of your adoption story.

    But I'm SO VERY HAPPY for you two. Boy do you both deserve this!!! Kiss them 'til they can't stand it anymore. Leave them with something small that smells of you and know you'll be back super quick to bring them HOME!

    What an honest, emotional, funny post. I laughed out loud with the dog pictures. You are spot on when you talk about your labor pains. I can only imagine the excitement and nervousness you are feeling now. It's almost making you feel super human isn't it.

    Just think you and your husband will look back on this time in years to come as such special time. I'm wishing you a safe trip and more time than you thought you'd have with your precious little ones. Kiss those adorable feet for me, too. All the best to you!

    Good luck in Ethiopia. One of my funnest plane rides was on Ethiopia Air. I've never been there, but I did live in another African country for two years. I hope you get to spend lots of time with your babies.

    Are you back or are you writing from Africa???

    I have been thinking about you so much and wondering how everything is going. I am wishing only the best and I can't wait to hear how your trip goes/went.

    Thanks for your comment about my mom. I would love to email you about her diagnosis and what we should expect from it. She's pretty much been asymtomatic for the most part, which is throwing the Drs for a loop. She does have super low blood pressure and her heart is weak, but she has energy and she is still fiesty. She's on oxygen now too.

    Anyways, when you have time, drop me a line so I know when to write.
